Celebrating Success: 2024 Graduation Highlights and a Public Lecture on Palliative Care

November was a month of pride and joy as we came together to celebrate not just one but two momentous occasions for our graduating nurses. On 5 November, the Ngee Ann Kongsi Auditorium at the Academia campus within Singapore General Hospital was abuzz with excitement as over 140 King’s nursing graduands marked the culmination of their two-year educational journey.

This Graduation Celebration wasn’t just about receiving a degree; it was a tribute to the perseverance, dedication and commitment that these nurses have shown in advancing their knowledge and skills to reach their maximum potential.

For many of our graduands, this milestone is more than an academic achievement — it is a dream realised.

Mr Tan Keng Guan, Senior Staff Nurse from Institute of Mental Health, elaborated, “Words can’t describe my excitement upon graduating with a King’s degree today. It has definitely been a tough journey but a rewarding one too. As I celebrate this moment of success, I look forward to applying what I’ve learnt in my nursing profession and strive to do my best to help my patients in their recovery.”

Ms Liu Xing Chen, Staff Nurse at National Heart Centre Singapore, shared similar sentiments, “It feels like a dream come true. The flexibility of the degree programme and the understanding shown by King’s lecturers have been pivotal in my education journey at NAA, especially when I have to balance multiple roles as a student, nurse and being a new mother!”

A Night of Learning and Connection

The celebrations continued the next day with a special event hosted by Ngee Ann Academy (NAA) and King’s College London — a Public Lecture on “Palliative Care in the 21st Century.” Held at NAA’s campus in Ngee Ann City Tower A, the evening brought together current nursing students, King’s alumni and healthcare professionals.

The lecture by Professor Catherine Evans, a world renown clinician-researcher on palliative care, provided fresh insights into a crucial area of healthcare, sparking meaningful discussions about the role of palliative care in the evolving landscape of nursing. Following the lecture, a networking session allowed attendees to exchange ideas, share experiences and build connections over a spread of delightful canapés, chocolates, red and white wines.

Looking Ahead: Your Next Step in Nursing Education

The celebrations may have come to an end but the journey of lifelong learning continues. As you reflect on your achievements, consider the opportunities that lie ahead. Applications for the January 2025 intake for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing with Honours (Top-up) are now open. Please contact NAA Admissions team for further assistance.

Together, we can continue to shape the future of healthcare and make a lasting impact on the lives of patients and their families.
