My last pursuit of professional learning was in 2008 – 12 years ago when I commenced the degree in nursing studies. I felt that it was timely to undertake degree in nursing studies, so that I can keep myself up-to-date with clinical practices. It also prepares me to participate / contribute to the design and conduct of research or quality studies. I feel that I can effectively transfer learning to practice and have been actively leading/facilitating improvement work, and participating as a research member.
Research, Dissertation as well as the Geriatric modules are my favourites. The degree strengthens my ability to assist in research, undertake literature review, analyse quality of published research/quality studies and their findings, and understand how to design studies; it also increases my knowledge in care of older people who require multiple healthcare needs.
In terms of attending lessons and learning: The degree study is well structured, and the delivery mode and materials provided are suitable for independent learners. The lecturers were also easily accessible, ready to go the extra mile and provided extra support when necessary. Coupled with the e-learning platform, KEATS, and their rich LMS, there were hardly any challenge when it comes to accessing learning.
