Master of Arts in Education

• Degree taught and awarded by University of Nottingham
• Part-time: Saturday and Sunday Classes (Two weekends every Term)
• Duration: MA Education – 24 months, PGDip Education – 12 months

This is a unique modular and flexible programme designed to reflect the needs of individuals or organisational cohorts. While each module has its own particular focus, all are concerned with investigating contemporary educational issues in the light of economic and social contexts, appropriate literature and the shared experience of course members.

A hallmark of the programme is the University’s commitment to equality and diversity and the flexibility to meet the needs of individuals and organisations. The overall purpose is to deepen and refine the students’ capacity for critical reflection on their practice as well as on the mental models which inform their work.

All fees are subject to prevailing GST. Programme fees are payable on a per module basis.

Students who successfully complete all academic requirements of the programme will be awarded the Postgraduate Diploma in Education or the Master of Arts in Education by the University of Nottingham.

Qualifications:

• A relevant second class honours degree (or international equivalent)
• GCSE / O-level English (as a first or second language) – Grade C; OR
• IELTS 6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in each element)

Learning support and online student resources: Moodle is the online learning platform employed by the University of Nottingham across its campuses and incorporates the following features:

• Online submission of student assignments
• Uploading of learning materials such as lecture slides, handouts, readings, web links, audios and videos
• Facilities for discussions, wikis, blogs and student databases
• Creation of fully integrated distance-learning course/blended learning course support

All University of Nottingham students are provided access to Moodle and will employ extensive usage of the platform throughout their study period. Students are also granted access to the University’s online library and its related services.

The login credentials for student email will similarly be employed for Moodle, Bluecastle, MyNottingham and the online library logins.

Assessment: Learning progress in all modules will primarily be assessed via a written assessment, which is to be submitted after a stipulated period following the final face to face teaching session. The exact assessment (inclusive of its requirements) and deadline varies from module to module but will be clearly indicated on the module Moodle page.

Access to Results: While Moodle provides basic feedback for assignments, overall course results are accessed via the Bluecastle portal. Students can also contact the Student Registry via email to request copies of their transcript.

Academic Appeal Policy and Process: Students are entitled to appeal against decisions made by the Exam Board or other academic body on issues of student progression, assessment and awards. Minimum Class Size: These courses are highly interactive and as such to ensure effective discussion and good class dynamism, the minimum class size will be 15 students per class. In the event that the class cannot commence due to the enrolment rate, applicants will be informed at least 2 weeks before programme commencement and refunded their application fee.
